METROFOOD-FED-BE Launches Open Calls

An important initiative has been launched by METROFOOD-FED.BE, the Belgian node of the EU research infrastructure METROFOOD-RI. On June 10th, the first two Open Calls were announced, offering potential users the opportunity to access two services for free:

  1. Platform for the migration, hazard, and risk assessment of chemicals present in food contact materials (FCM).
The service includes a comprehensive approach with modules for migration, hazard, and risk assessment, which can be consulted independently or combined according to individual preferences and needs.
  2. Physicochemical characterization of inorganic nanoparticles applied to food contact materials using electron microscopy and evaluation of their possible release into food using ICP-MS/ICP-OES.
The service is provided in relation to improving the functionality of FCM, assessing the safety of FCM, quality control of FCM, and/or authorization of nanoparticles (NP) in regulations.

This calls are open to a wide range of users, including researchers from research organizations, universities, or laboratories, as well as governments and industries such as food sector operators and food control authorities. Applications for participation in the Open Calls can be submitted until the deadline on October 1, 2024, at 5:00 PM. Final selections and detailed evaluation reports will be available to users starting October 31, 2024.
